Cytoskeleton Parts and Their Functions
(1.) Microtubules- These are like hollow rods, and made up of proteins called tubulin. Their main function, is to support the cell and transportation of organelles. It also responsible for movement of the flagella and cilia. They are also involved in the separation of chromosomes during cell division.
(2.) Microfilaments- They are like intertwined strands made up of a protein called actin. They play a role in maintenance of cell shape, and motility, and also play apart in muscle contraction.
(3.) Intermediate filaments- fibrous proteins(ex. keratin) coiled into thick cables, which help in maintenance of cell shape and anchorage of the nucleus and other organelles.
