Lysosomes

Lysosomes are small organelles found in eukaryotic, animal cells. They are essential for the process of digestion and disposal of macromolecules in the cell. Lysosomes are suggested to also be found in yeast, yet this idea is heavily debated by scientists.

Function

Lysosomes require a few enzymes that are commonly acid hydrolase. They digest macromolecules in the cell, and are considered to be one of the most important organelles in the cell.

Peroxisomes

Peroxisomes are organelles that are membrane-enclosed, and found in most eukaryotic cells. Peroxisomes contain about 50 enzymes. In plant cells, peroxisomes go through photorespiration, which deals with the side products in the production of glucose.

Function

In both plant and animal cells, peroxisomes help stabilize metabolic reactions. Although peroxisomes and lysosomes are usually classified in the same manner, peroxisomes are assembled, unlike lysosomes, such as mitochondria and chloroplasts. They are also similar to chloroplasts and mitochondria by the way they duplicate--by division.
