In this project you are to create a "most important organelle" campaign for your organelle. You will have to argue that without your organelle, the cell and the organism and consequently the world as we know it would collapse. I expect you to understand the details of your organelles. Here's what you have to do:
Poster: Create and put up campaign posters and other paraphernelia (with pre-approved permission of Ms. Bonebrake) I am requiring at least one poster championing the greatness of your organelle. This should be very visual, think the iconic Obama Hope Poster.
Wiki: In addition you need to create a wiki that describes how totally awesome your organelle is. Include a classy graphic, then details as to the structure of your organelle and the function of your organelle. Be sure to relate the structure to the function! It is crucial for you to make the connection for your voter about why your organelle is the most important. So tell your voter why your organelle is important for the survival of the organism. Can you link that to the survival of an ecosystem? The whole entire world? Okay, maybe that is a little dramatic, but campaigns are full of drama! Get into this. You will want to include references at the bottom of your wiki. MLA style references only. Other than what I requested you might consider how you could go above and beyond, quotes for doctors... images... get creative! Your wiki should include information and visuals.
Mudslinging: Last you should use some form of social media (vine, video, twitter #greenwoodorganellewars, wiki discussion, at the bottom of your competitors wiki) to smear at least three other organelles (these will be assigned). Consider researching what happens when things go wrong with a specific organelle. Are there diseases associated with mutations or malfunctions associated with your opponents organelles. You will have to include your smear campaign in your campaign video/speech.
Campaign Day: Speeches- Create a video or chose one person to perform the speech. You will be performing your speech and sharing your wiki. You need to convince the voters that based on the structure and function of your organelle it is the most important. Your time limit is 5 minutes. You must provide me with a transcript of your video/speech. On election day you will vote for your own organelle (who wouldn't vote for their own?) and one other organelle in your class. The winning organelle team will receive a small bonus on their project grade.
Finally, Friday, December 13, will be election day, consider what you might do to win the election. Beyond what I have required, you can be as creative as is ethically correct to win the campaign. No threatening or bribing other students but extra posters, t-shirts, buttons, stickers, pencils, face paint... you come up with the ideas! Please clear all ideas with Ms. Bonebrake.
