Vote for the Nucleus!!!!!

What does the Nucleus do?- The nucleus helps control eating, movement, and reproduction of the cell. Also, the Nucleus stores DNA and RNA which contain the cells genetic information, which is a HUGE factor in the cell.

Where is it located?- In relation to the cell, it is in the middle of the cell and the largest (why it is the most important) part of the cell! You can find the nucleus in eukaryotic plant and animal cells. There are strands of DNA located in prokaryotic cells so it performs similar functions to the Nucleus.

Definitions-

  • Nucleus- The central and most important part of an object, movement, or group, forming the basis for its activity and growth.
  • Nucleolus- A small dense spherical structure in the nucleus of a cell during interphase.
  • Chromosomes- A threadlike structure of nucleic acids and protein found in the nucleus of most living cells, carrying genetic information in the form of genes.
  • Chromatin- The material of which the chromosomes of organisms other than bacteria (i.e., eukaryotes) are composed. It consists of protein, RNA, and DNA.
  • Nuclear Membrane- The double-layered membrane surrounding the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell, separating the nucleoplasm from the cytoplasm.

The other definitions, such as Nucleolus, Chromosomes, Chromatin, and Nuclear Membrane are also very significant as well. The Chromosomes are the DNA and RNA. These are what the Nucleus and Nucleolus store. Last, The Nuclear Membrane transport the Chromosomes thorough the cell.

Important Facts about the Nucleus!!!

  • cells do not have t hem
  • They contain chromosomes holding DNA
  • It was the first organelle discovered
  • It is the largest cellular structure in animals
  • It has a double membrane called a nuclear envelope that separates it from the cytoplasm.
